I have signed a 6-month contact with a gym paying for monthly services. My 6 months have come to an end, when telling the gym owner that I will not continue my contract he states that

Does the contract require thirty-day notice to discontinue or terminate your membership, even as or after the 6 months is up? If so, then he can hold to you to the 30-day requirement, which means you'll have to pay for a month of gym.
But that's only if the contract requires 30-day notice: there is no general legal requirement for 30 days notice, even for "big companies." If the notice requirement is not in the contract, you would not owe the month.
You need to review the contract to see what you do and do not owe.
