What happens if my former landlord won’t switch electric back on his name now that I’ve moved out?

When I moved in my landlord told me to switch the electric service into my name. I did but then I moved out. He told me that he switched it back on his name but I discovered that he never did. I got the huge bill for extra month and a half. Is there a legal way to make him take responsibility got that if I have the written contract with the new landlord that states a date I moved in to the new place?

Okay look:  it is your responsibility to have the electric cut off when you leave.  You can call the utility and let them know that the lease term has ended and that they need to send a final bill for your account.  That is what you should have done when you left.  Some of that electric bill will be for usage while you were still in the apartment.  Ask the utility to calculate the amount and send them a check.  Then if they hold you liable for the rest sue your landlord.  Good luck.
