Is there any law requiring that I carry health insurance on my stepdaughter?

She moved out 5 months ago and has no contact with me or her father. She will be 19 in a week.

The question I have is if her Father is required to carry insurance on her pursuant to the divorce agreeemtn.  If the answer is yes then I would tread lightly here for your husband's sake.  You should speak with some one who is aware of the law in your state.  In many states the law does not specifically address a step child and insurance.  How ever, the Insurance Department for the state interprets the statutes for health insurance that state "child" to mean step children as well.  So if a health insurance policy has coverage for children then the insurer must cover step children as well.   Teenagers are a unique animal and they come and go in the lives of their parents for different reasons.  She is still a child in may respects and I am sure that if something were to happen to her you would not wish her to be uninsured.  Think about it.  Good luck.
