Is it legal to charge staff members for the service they provide?

I work the front desk at a fitness studio in NJ. They charge us the front desk
staff a membership fee to take the classes we offer. Obviously classes that are
full are excluded. Just wanted to see if this is legal or not, since so many other
established places allow their staff to take classes for free.

It is perfectly legal: the class is a service or thing of value, and there is no law requring employers to give services or things of value to their staff. The only thing you are entitled to is the pay and benefits you receive as compensation for working. Certainly, your employer could let you take these classes for free, but they are not required to do.
