Is it legal for my employer to take away pay without notifying me?

My employer took pay away from me on the 18th of last month but didn’t notify me until the 25th of this month. Shouldn’t I be entitled to that money up until the date they notified me?

You are aorrect. While an employer may always change or reduce pay going fowards (unless, that is, there is a contract guarantying a certain wage or salary), such a reduction is only effective from and after it is announced or told to the employee. Until the employee has notice of a change in his or her pay, he or she must be paid at the then-prevailing rate.
