If I inadvertently walked out of a store with a $1 used CD, what shoulfI do?
I was charged with retail theft. This is my first time offense. Should I plead no contest, as I admit to walking out of store with item? Citation was issued by police officer at store. Should I ask for first time offender pre-trial diversion?

If you were charged with the theft of a $1.00 used cd, you should consult with a criminal defense attorney as to the best way for you to resolve the charge against you. One possibility is that the court may place you under "court probation" where you would be required to do community service work and stay out of trouble for a certain time period.
If successful, the charge could be dismissed with no conviction on your record. I would have your attorney enter a not guilty plea for you and seek the first time offender pre-trial diversion program for you.
