I lent some films to a friend and then had a falling out with them, and after a month of him having them he told me to come over. I showed up and he threw my movies out the door and slammed the door on me. When I knocked again the door swung open,he tried to fight me. Our girlfriends got into a fight. Lacking the physical size or strength that he has, I went to my car and got a golf club. Out of anger, I smashed his back rear window and drove away. I woke up the next morning and my windshield and back windshield was busted out. Now, he pressed charges on me. What should I do? Should I get a criminal lawyer? In Columbia County, GA.

What you need to do now is to speak with a criminal attorney before you do or say anything to anyone. They can best advise you as to your legal rights and options. A skilled defense attorney may be able to get the charge dismissed or at least reduced (depending on what you are charged with). If you are a first-time offender they may even be able to arrange an alternative sentence, which if completed successfully, would leave you with a clean criminal record. Additionally, they can advise you on how to handle the damage done to your car. Again, speak to an attorney in the area local to where all of this occurred.
