I am guessing this was a first time offense, correct?  So you were found guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor and there was no term of imprisonment (it was suspended) on condition that the you complete at least 24 hours of community service and you did, correct?  Then yes, this type of conviction may indeed be expunged under North Carolina Law.  The problem may be the time that you have to wait to do so.  It is my understanding that in 2012 the law was changed and now you must wait 15 years to make such a request (after completion of the community service that it).  Please contact a criminal attorney - or legal aid attorney - in your area.  Good luck.
