If I lie on my resume about having a degree, and my boss finds out could the company I am contracting for legally pursue me?

Could there be fines or possible jail
time? I understand that there is a
possibility that I may be fired.

You could be sued (e.g. to recover some or all of your salary or recruitment fees or training costs) and potentially (unlikely, but possible) face criminal charges. What you did is fraud and could even be viewed as a form of theft: obtaining money (your pay and benefits) to which you were not entitled through false pretenses.
