If I don’t appear to a preliminary hearing as a victim, will I be issued a warrant for my arrest?

I was involved in a domestic dispute. I don’t want to press charges. I was told by an advocate not to show up to the court date and charges will be dropped and I won’t be charged. But the detectives told me I would be.

What the advocate told you is correct.  You won't be arrested.  Since you are the victim, if you don't appear, the case will be dismissed.
