There is a very good chance that if you were personally cited for driving a vehicle with no valid insurance or registration upon it, you could be liable for any resulting penalty even if you were unaware of these facts.

To assist you, if you had insurance for your own car and your insurance covered you for driving a vehicle that was not in your name, potentially the citation for no insurance as to the vehicle you were driving may be dismissed as to you.
