If I borrowed a van with no valid tag or insurance and got tickets for both, could I still be found guilty if I wasn’t aware that it had neither?

There is a very good chance that if you were personally cited for driving a vehicle with no valid insurance or registration upon it, you could be liable for any resulting penalty even if you were unaware of these facts.
To assist you, if you had insurance for your own car and your insurance covered you for driving a vehicle that was not in your name, potentially the citation for no insurance as to the vehicle you were driving may be dismissed as to you.
As to the ticket for driving a vehicle that was not registered, there is a good chance you or the registered owner will be responsible for this penalty. I suggest that you go online and carefully read the offense that you are cited for and see if it applies to you.
