While some professions certain medical personnel, airline pilots and the like have restrcitions as to hower many hours a day/how many days in a row, that a person can be scheduled to work, as a general rule there is no limit as to the hours/days that an employee can be required to work. 
That having been said, if the employee is a non-exempt employee i.e. typically hourly then they are subject to overtime pay for any hours that they work over 40. Such overtime is to be paid at 1 1/2 the employee's hourly rate i.e. "time and a half". It's the law.
