Job abandonment is often used as a pretext for a discriminatory termination, especially in cases of disability discrimination.  A request for a leave of absence from work is a request for a reasonable accomodation of a disability under the ADA.  If you are disabled and requested time off from work, you should pursue a claim for wrongful termination.  You need to first file a complaint with the EEOC or the Arizona Attorney General's Office Civil Rights Division.
