Without a written contract, in California you are an "at will" employee.  That means that your employer can fire you at any time for a reason, or for no reason at all.  Unless you can prove that you were somehow discriminated against because of your skin color, gender, religion, age or sexual orientation, I would recommend you start looking for a new job.  Wish I had better news for you.
