What will happen if I was charged with possession of marijuana but I was in the car with 3 other people?

The vehicle was not mine, nor was I driving, but the officer smelled marijuana odor and searched the vehicle and found 1 gram. I was detained, not for possession, but because the police officer said I do not reside in the state (I do not and was just hanging out with my friends). Do I have to worry about getting convicted for possession?

If there is some evidence to connect you to the marijuana--which could include one or more of the other three people testifying that it was your drugs--then yes, you could be charged and, if the evidence is strong enough, convicted for possession.
