If I signed a 1 year lease that expired last month and the landlord never had me sign a new lease, what am I responsible for?

At the end of this lease, neither myself or the landlord mentioned another lease. So am I simply renting month-to-month now or does the lease automatically start over even though it has never been changed to any other dates? Also, what about my last months rent that I put up front when I originally signed the lease and my deposit?

The landlord continuing to accept your rent payment after the expiration of your lease means that you now have a month-to-month tenancy on the same terms as your original lease.  Your security deposit and last month's rent payment under the original lease would now be applicable to your month-to-month tenancy.
