I would seek consultation from a person that is knowledgeable in the state of Texas as to this matter. Although most people think that the state of Texas seems to be lenient with regard to gun laws, they do indeed have limitations - time limitations as well as the type of conviction limitations - on who can own a gun, what type of gun and when. You did not indicate what the misdemeanor conviction was for. That matters. For example, certain misdemeanors make you permanently ineligible to obtain a handgun while others make you only temporarily ineligible (eligibility returns after a certain number of years). Seek consultation within your state.
