If I recently spent a total of 5 days traveling to work at a city 80 miles away, is my employer required to pay mileage and an hourly rate?

If the city 80 miles per way is not your usual work location (for example, your office), but is rather somewhere you are being sent by your employer for work (such as a client's office or some jobsite), the employer would have to pay an hourly employee his/her hourly rate for travel. (If it was your usual work location or office, then you do not have to be paid for the time spent travel, since that is simply your commute to/from work.)

Employers are never required to pay mileage, unless there is some employment contract or other agreement obligating them to do so.
