I need to know how the statute of limitations works?

It is a personal matter with an ex-which boyfriend occurred over 4 years ago. There was no contractbut this year he finally admitted in writing that he owed me money. Is it worth going to court for to try and get the money back or is the statute of limitations an issue? In GA.
