What can I do if I looked up my business name on the internet and found out another contractor is advertising my business name for his company?

My license is on inactive right now but I am selling my business name. What recourse do I have??I wont be able to get the money for my company name if someone else is advertising my business name for themselves.

You can sue the contractor for invasion of privacy.  
Invasion of privacy is the appropriation of one's name or likeness for commercial purposes without consent.
Your damages (monetary compensation) in your lawsuit for invasion of privacy would include lost income from the misappropriation of your business name.  You should also consider punitive damages ( a substantial amount) to punish the intentional wrongful act of the other contractor misappropriating and using your business name.
