What to do if I have credit card debt in collections?
I received a letter from a local attorney stating that there was a lawsuit filed against me by a debt collector. I haven’t received any summons and there is nothing listed in the online docket system against me. I viewed my credit report and noticed a discrepancy in the amount of the debt from the credit card vs the collections agency. They seemed to have “rounded up” the amount actually owed to the next dollar. Should I request a validation of debt and dispute this before i actually receive anything? BTW I am amongst the working poor, single mother 3 kidshave no assets, and just barely make my monthly bills, in fact if I don’t work overtime I don’t make enough to pay necessities.

Assuming you actually owe money on the credit card debt that you have written about I suggest that you work to get a written agreement in place setting forth a monthly amount that you can afford to pay to reduce the amount owed.
