What to do if I have been informed that a former employer that fired me for something unrelated is investigating me for credit card fraud?

I am only one of several parties with access to two cards that I was authorized to make purchases on for several years. Can I actually be charged for this?

If it were true, there is a 5 year statute of limitations on credit card fraud in your state. The key here in your question is that you claim you were authorized to make purchases.  As long as the purchases you made were with in the scope of your purchasing power and employment you should be fine.  But I would consult with an attorney nonetheless since you are actually being investigated.  Good luck.
