Under the laws of most states, the punishment for a misdemeanor conviction can be up to $1,000 as a fine and/or up to six (6) months in jail. If this is your first offense, then the chances of jail time is somewhat remote.
However, you will most likely be fined and placed upon probation. I suggest that you consult with a criminal defense attorney about your situation with the possibility of retention. You do not want to have a criminal conviction. It can impact your ability for school and getting a good job. Good luck.
