Good question. Does your lease preclude you having the pit bull service dog you are writing about? If not, you are contractually entitled to have this dog at the premises where you are regardless of what your landlord's insurance company's position.

Suggestion: Offer to get a renter's insurance policy for your dog for liability purposes naming your landlord as an additional insured where he or she pays for the policy. You end friction with the landlord, keep the dog and the landlord should be much happier with the situation.
