What can happen if I embezzled a lot of money from my employer?
I quit 2 weeks ago and admitted to it. I just received a call from their attorney who stated they have not contacted the authorities yet. I did, in my confession, say they could keep my retirement funds. Their attorney called and stated that they would be willing for me to sign that over to them but did not indicate if they will be pursuing any further restitution. What should I do? I cannot afford an attorney.

Hello. I urge you to confer privately with an attorney immediately. You ought not post details of your issue on a public website because your statements may be used against you. In the event you cannot afford an attorney should this matter become charged in the criminal court system you may then apply for a public defender. Again, please privately confer with an attorney immediately. Some attorneys, myself included, are available seven days for emergency legal needs. Many attorneys will confer initially at no charge. Then, if legal work is performed, some attorneys, myself included, will provide a reduced fee for financial hardship. Some attorneys, myself included, may also assist you in limited scope manner to conserve legal costs. All the best.

You need to stop posting things acknowledging your guilt on the internet immediately and if possible I would suggest deleting posts like this anywhere you put them. After that, I strongly suggest getting a Minnesota criminal defense attorney to review your case based on where you're at and guide you from there. If you cannot afford an attorney contact the local legal aid agency in your county to see if they can help you. Also, if it goes criminal you will be entitled to a public defender if you cannot pay.
