How do I get something removed from my credit report?

I have a foreclosure from a previous marriage where I was not aware the loan was in default. The property went into foreclosure and sold but the bank is still reporting it as an active mortgage. How can I clear this up?

The best way to try and get the item that you have written about from your credit report is for you to personally call the credit reporting company to discuss the situation and inquire what you can do to get its removal since the mortgage is no longer active. Different reporting agencies have different criteria for the removal of items on a consumer's report.

You need to be aware that credit reporting agencies these days are typically not too helpful in assisting consumers in their requests.
