Louisiana is governed by a different set of laws that the other states in the Union so I would speak with an attorney there about the legal process involved. generally speaking, you are going to have to be appointed by the court as a temporary guardian of the child. Some states allow that with out initial court intervention to allow a eprson to register a child in school, etc. But the coruts will need to be involved at some point if you intend on taking full care of the child. Good luck.
