How do I get a divorce when I have no access to money?

My husband has circumvented any access that I have to our joint account and has left it nearly $2,000 in the negative. He has opened his own private account; I do not work. We need a divorce. I do not know how to get one without any money of my own.

Since money is an issue, you can see if Legal Aid can help. If not, you can check if there is a law school in your area as many run legal clinics that take clients for free or reduced fees depending on their financesl. Additionally, you can contact the local county/state bar association and ask if it has a list of attorneys who will represent clients "pro bono" (that is for free) based on their income/circumstances. Further, you can file yourself. Here is a link that you'll find to be of help: http://www.courts.ca.gov/selfhelp-divorce.htm
