How can I prevent someone posing as a collections agency from calling me?

The party in question has been calling me several times a day from multiple phone numbers. If I answer, they tell me that they have a “file” on me and I need to “verify my identity” by giving them my name, phone number, address, and SSN before they will give me any more information. All 3 credit bureaus show 0 negative marks on my credit, so I can’t imagine this can be legitimate. What can I do? Can I sue for harassment?

If you want to be left alone from this person who is posing as a collections agency representative, the next time he or she calls you, get as much information as you can about him or her, the business address, telephone number and the name of his or her supervisor.

When the conversation is done, ask that you not be contacted in the future and then write a letter to the supervisor asking to not be contacted. Keep a copy of the letter for future reference and need.

Do not give this person any personal information about yourself especially your social security number. From what you have written, it appears that you are being set up for a scam. I suggest that you contact your district attorney's office about the situation that you are dealing with. Never give out your social security number.
