Have you undergone surgery with the da Vinci device and faced prolonged suffering as a result? A Personal Injury Lawyer can help.

The Da Vinci Device – Used for Surgical Procedures

The da Vinci device is a robot used to perform surgical procedures. It is a computer-operated robot controlled by a surgeon. It allows the surgeon to perform invasive surgeries without physically coming into contact with the patient’s body. The device uses articulated robotic arms to hold the tools and a surgical console that allows the surgeon to control the robotic arms from afar. The device is used for a variety of surgical procedures, including cardiac, gastric bypass, prostate, thyroid, hysterectomy, and gallbladder.

Medical Injuries From Use of the Da Vinci

The concern with the use of the da Vinci system was raised after numerous reports of lacerations, bleedings and the worst of consequences; death. This was enough cause for a report to be requested into the use and maintenance of the device and the confidence of the surgeons in using this device. Intuitive Surgical Inc (ISI) markets their device on the assumption that it reduces the length of stays, causes fewer complications, less blood transfusions and lower infection rates. However these assumptions are unproven, with no peer-reviewed reports to substantiate the claims. There is, as yet, no study or articles from an independent source. The only available literature is that written by those involved with ISI, the creators and distributors of the device.

How An Attorney Can Help

Medical negligence caused by the da Vinci robotic device should be dealt with by consulting an experienced product liability attorney. If you, or someone you know, have suffered from any of the following injuries, or death, as a result of a surgery using a da Vinci device, you should contact an attorney to discuss possible litigation and the potential for compensation:

  • Vaginal cuff dehiscence (can result in severe infection and further surgery)
  • Thermal burns
  • Puncture of vessels, bowel, and organs
  • Bleeding
  • Sepsis
  • Incontinence
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Death
