What to do if my family is being evicted?
Although the term “eviction” has not been used by our landlord, it is what the action against us is being taken. Then 1 week ago we were told that due to zoning laws the apartment we were renting could no longer have a kitchen. Our apartment is actually a house that has had its attic modified to house 3 bedrooms a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom. We were told that because of this we could no longer rent the apartment. We have been living in this apartment for over 13 years, my aunt rented this apartment for over 5 years prior to that. We are being asked to sign a paper written by our landlord stating when we will be moving out. What options do we have in this situation?

Given the uncertainties that you have written about the unit that you have been occupying for the past thirteen (13) years, I suggest that you consult with a landlord tenant attorney to review the document presented by the landlord and to look into the situation as to whether or not the unit you were renting is illegal. If so, then perhaps the landlord needs to refund you rent for a long period of time with interest?
