An employer need only pay its workers on time. To the extent that it distributes paychecks early, it is perfectly permissible for it to mandate that they not be cashed earlier then the date on which they are due. That is unless doing so constitutes a breach of the terms of a union agreement or employment contract.

It is legal. The company's obligation is to simply pay you on time. If for whatever reason, they got the checks to you early but told you to not cash or deposit them until the day your normally would, they have done nothing wrong.
