What kind of deal can be worked out with an informant?
My fiance is on parole. He has no felonies orany violent charges against him. He was recently incarcerated for an alleged car jacking and assault with a deadly weapon. He has some information that he’s willing to give up about drug dealers and other street things going on. Is there any kind of deal the court can work out with him? What are his other options? Also, just to add this for a bigger picture, when he was arrested he was not in the stolen vehicle and had no keys to that vehicle; no weapons were on him or found. Should he speak with a criminal law attorney? In Santa Barbara County, CA.

Well car jacking is a violent felony charge in California. If he has no other criminal history, he should immediately seek out tomorrow a well versed and highly experienced criminal defense attorney who has had experiences with these type of charges and convictions. He should be candid with this attorney and explain he can also serve as an informant but being an informant requires complete anonymity for his safety and yours. If one can absolutely do this correctly, then one might be able to plea bargain but any possibility of information that could be brought up needs to be clear and helpful and there is no guaranty that the prosecutor will agree to this.
