First DWI/ Texas…how do I keep my driver’s license w/o hiring an attorney? Can this charge be removed after 1 year with no further violations?

Was told I could offer DA; $250 fine, credit for 1 day in jail + 40 hours community service/ possible probation, point reduction on driver’s license

I wouldn't do it without a lawyer.  You can hire a private counsel or get a public defender.   You shouldn't ever deal with a DA by yourself.  Remember, the DA is a lawyer, you are not.

Just because it is your first DWI, doesn't necessarily mean you get to whittle away any punishment to simply what you want -- we don't know if you have priors for anything -- how much your alcohol content was, what else you were charged with, etc.

Try talking to your public defender.  Or for a consultation with a private criminal defense attorney, try www.attorneypages.com and then check his or her record at the Texas State Bar.
