If I have an expunged record and have a green card, if I leave the country and come back will I be

detained or will I be okay for re-entry into the U.S.?

My conviction was for 3rd degree theft.

You should be ok to reenter the US if the record is indeed expunged and there are no outstanding issues with it.  This is something that you should clarify with the attorney that assisted you with the expungement .  It is something that you can also discuss with CBP prior to your departure.
