Do I have rights to time off?

I’m a dog walker/pet sitter and have recently been having issues with my boss and scheduling. In the last month I’ve had 1 weekend off 2 days and am receiving reprimanding for asking for a 12 hour period off for a medical reason. Is this legal?

The fact is that unless you have an employment contract or other agreement stating otherwise, you can be scheduled to work as many hours/days in a row as your employer chooses. In an "at will" work arrangment, a company can set the conditions of work much as it sees fit, absent actionable discrimination. While certain employees have limits as to the hours they can be scheduled to work (i.e. pilots, truck drivers, some medical personnel), most do not.
