An at will employee can be fired for good bad or no reason at all.  this means that if the employer has a policy that says that you are not permitted to work overtime, then they have a good reason to get rid of you - i.e. violation company rules.  You cannot afford to violate the rules becasue an employee at will has little to no bargaining power with the employer.  The employer could have fired you.  You should follow the rules as the employer can do what they want absent discrimination.
