Can you be demoted for a non-work related injury?

I have been recently demoted due to an injury that was not work related. My employer says it is so I can preform all the required tasks at hand. But at my previous status I would be able to complete all the tasks given.

Is this a temporary demotion due to a disability?  Will the demotion have an adverse effect on your ability to say, earn a bonus?  Then you could be dealing with employee discrimination issues.  I would strongly suggest that you seek consultation from an attorney that deals with these matters who can find out the particulars of the matter and research case law.  Good luck.
