Can the owners of my apartment complex give me a notice to leave for no reason?

My lease has been up for a while but the manager just gave me a 2 month notice that the owners want their property back and said she didn’t have to give a reason. Can they do that and now my rent is due today and if I give them what I have from unemployment then I won’t even be able to try to have enough to move out. Someone told me I don’t have to pay since they are making me go.

If your lease is up, you are technically a hold over tenant on a month-to-month basis to occupy the unit you have with your landlord. If your landlord wants you to vacate at this point in time, he or she can simply serve you with a 30 day notice to vacate your tenancy with no explanation why it is desired that you move from the rental.

You are required to pay rent for all time you occupy the rental even if the landlord has ended your tenancy unless the landlord has signed a written agreement stating rent is not owed.
