I was at work and my landlord came to my door and asked my guest to leave; he locked her out of my apartment.

I presume that your guest who had your permission was doing nothing wrong to warrant being removed from your apartment by your landlord? Did your guest advise the landlord that she or he had permission to be at your apartment? If not, perhaps your landlord was trying to safeguard your interests against a stranger that he or she did not know.
Did the landlord or guest try and contact you before the guest was actually removed by the landlord to sort out the situation in order to avoid a future issue? Did your landlord have knowledge that this guest was a friend of yours via you before the removal was done?
In answer to your question, ordinarily in most States in this country a landlord cannot loack a guest of a tenant out of the rented apartment. As stated, perhaps your landlord was trying to protect your interests from third person he did not know.
