Can someone’s wages be garnished for someone else’s financial obligation?

I’m 1 month late on my car payment plus late fees. I never gave them my dad’s phone number. They call him every day saying they are going to repossess my car. Now they are calling his work saying they are going to garnish his wages. His name isn’t on my loan. He didn’t cosign or anything. Is this legal?

What you have is bad behavior with respect to a third party debt collection company engaging in unfair debt collection practices under federal and state law. Your father has no contractual or legal obligation with respect to the loan that you have on your car based upon what you have written.

I suggest that if your father is done with the telephone calls from this third party debt collection company that he consult with an attorney that practices in the area of consumer law.
