This depends on the state you are located in at the time of the recording.  Laws vary from state to state in regard to recording conversations.  In Arizona, one party can record a conversation without the other party's knowledge or consent.  You need to check the law in the state you were in at the time of the recording.   Another factor is the subject of the conversation.  Parties to certain types of conversations, such as debt collecgtion efforts, must be notified prior to the conversation that the conversation is being recorded.
