Can my landlord withhold repairs for rent?

I live in a house with one bathroom and the plumbing has went bad. The pipe is cracked and it is causing a leak under the sink and extensive water damage. When my fiance called the landlord, they stated that they are not going to repair because we have only paid half of the rent for the month. I am trying to understand my rights as a tenant in this situation and what my landlord can’t do. I believe that mold is going to start growing soon. What can I do?

Under the laws of all states in this country, a landlord cannot hold off repairing a rental due to the tenant being late in his or her rental payment. From what you have written, I suggest that you consult with a landlord tenant attorney about your matter because it appears that your landlord has no intent in making the needed repairs to your rental anytime soon.
