While somewhat odd, this request is legal. The fact is that in an "at will" employment relationship, an employer can set the conditions of the workplace much as it sees fit. This includes mandating that an employee to greet them. That is unless this action violates the terms of an employment contract or union agreement or constitutes some form of legally actionable discrimination.
