Can my assets/income be taken from a car accident that happened prior to my husband and I being married?

My husband was in a car accident before we were married and is being sued even though the accident was not his fault. I am just curious if the case it goes to trial, which is where it’s headed and the person suing is awarded more than his coverage limits can they come after my income or assets (such as savings etc.)

They can come after jointly owned property, at least to the extent that your husband contributed to it and/or has an ownership interest in it, as well as, of course, going after his personal assets and income. So, for example, say you have a joint bank or brokerage account--since it is partly his account, at least some of the money or securities in it could be reached by the plaintiff, if he/she prevails against your husband. They cannot garnish your own salary or wages at all.
