Can I work while L2 EAD extension is getting processed?

I am currently working on L2 EAD, which is valid until the end of last month. If I file my EAD extension now, and get USCIS receipt of them having received my extension application, will that allow me to continue my employment without any break?

No, the filing of the extension, if it is done after the current EAD expires, does not give you permission to continue working.  You can only work while the EAD is valid and once it is expired, you have to wait for the extension to be approved.  Any employment while you do not have a valid document can jeopardize your future ability to immigrate.
