Can I sue my school for mental and emotional stress/abuse? I have been assaulted/battered on 2 separate occasions by 2 separate students and in both cases the administration swept the complaints under the rug and scolded me for it. No, you cannot sue the college for the assaults by the other students or the effects thereof; the college (or any person or entity) is not responsible for the criminal acts of other persons unless the college in some way caused or contributed to them. Furthermore, mental and emotional distress is generally not something you can sue for except against a person who intentionally inflicted it on you--which the college did not do. The attackers are people whom you should be suing.
