I need to sue for my security deposit for a previous apartment but I moved out of the state. Can I sue for the security deposit from my new state?

A lawsuit can be filed in the state where the plaintiff resides or in the state where the defendant resides or in the state where the claim arose.
The jurisdiction of Small Claims Court regarding out of state claims may or may not be limited which would vary from state to state. It would be advisable to check with the Small Claims Court in your state to see if there are any applicable restrictions which may prevent you from filing your lawsuit in your current state's Small Claims Court.
