Can I get computation if I was shot in a city street?

I got shot 6 times 2 years ago. No one ever gave me my belonging or any leads on who or how I got shot. I have medical bills over 40k.

If you can identify the person who shot you, you sue him or her for your injuries and medical bills. You may also be eligible for some compensation (potentially up to $15,000) from the State Office of Victim Assistance or SOVA; you should contact them to apply and see what, if anything, you are eligible for. Here is a link to a webpage you may find helpful: http://sova.sc.gov/sova.html
Only this state office and the shooter (if you can find him, sue him, etc.) may provide compensation, unless you can find a charity which may help.
If saddled with medical bills which you can't pay, filing for bankruptcy may be an option for you; here is a link to a U.S. Bankruptcy Courts page where you can get information:http://www.uscourts.gov/services-forms/bankruptcy/bankruptcy-basics
