Can I be fired for being unable to perform my job duties due to a stroke

I had a mild stroke in Oct. I have not been released by my doctor to return to work
due to weakness on my left side. i drive a concrete truck and just received a letter
informing me my short term disability while run out mid month and I am being
terminated due to the inability to perform my job duties w/ out restrictions.

The law prevents an employer from discriminating against someone due to their disability. That having been said, it does not mean that they cannot fire a worker with a disability; the fact is that they can for any of a number of valid reasons, job performance issues being one of them.
